Ranveer Singh’s ‘Ishq Jalakar’ Brings Back a 65-Year-Old Classic With a New Beat

Ranveer Singh’s ‘Ishq Jalakar’ Brings Back a 65-Year-Old Classic With a New Beat

The team behind Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film Dhurandhar has dropped a new song titled ‘Ishq Jalakar – Karvaan’, and fans are already feeling the nostalgia. The reason? The track is a modern recreation of a 65-year-old legendary qawwali, a tune that has travelled across generations.

The song, released by Saregama, brings back the familiar melody inspired by the iconic Barsaat Ki Raat qawwali ‘Na Toh Karwaan Ki Talash Hai’. Many listeners connect this track with their childhood because singing reality shows played it often, especially during qawwali rounds.

A Song Rooted in Music History

The original qawwali — ‘Na Toh Butkade Ki Talab Mujhe’ — was performed by the legendary duo Ustad Fateh Ali Khan and Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan. Later, Hrithik Roshan’s grandfather Roshan transformed that traditional composition into a Bollywood version for Barsaat Ki Raat (1960).

That 1960 track became iconic thanks to the magical voices of Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Asha Bhosle, Sudha Malhotra and S.D. Batish.

Now, in Dhurandhar, music director Shashwat Sachdev has brought a fresh sound to it. ‘Ishq Jalakar’ features vocals by Shashwat Sachdev, Shahzad Ali, Subhadeep Das Chowdhury, and Armaan Khan, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Sahir Ludhianvi.

For many fans, this comeback feels like the evolution of a timeless piece of music.

A Song Loved by Legends

The qawwali also has a special place in the hearts of Bollywood stars.
During The Roshans Netflix show, Shah Rukh Khan said this is his favourite composition by Roshan.

He shared,
“I nearly know the entire qawwali if it is playing.”

Singer Sonu Nigam also praised the masterpiece, saying nothing before or after has matched its energy and brilliance.

Song Release Was Delayed

The song was earlier expected to release on November 24. However, the makers delayed the launch as a mark of respect, following the death of legendary actor Dharmendra, who passed away at the age of 89.

Although the team has not released any official statement, the delay reflects the mourning across the film industry.

Fans React: Goosebumps Everywhere

As soon as Saregama uploaded the video, the comment section flooded with reactions:

  • “People wanted that banger version of the song. Goosebumps!”
  • “I can die for this tune.”
  • “Kudos to Shashwat Sachdev for recreating this masterpiece.”

The love for this composition shows how deeply it is rooted in Indian music culture.
